Keep a positive attitude

  • Don't allow arthritis to isolate you
  • Go out and take the pain with you
  • Talk to others, it is nothing to be embarrassed about and you will find many people in the same situation
  • See if there are any support groups in your area

Your diet is an important factor

  • Avoid red meat
  • Avoid excessive alcohol intake
  • Plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit
  • Drink lots of water

Keeping active, exercise as much as you can

  • Swimming
  • Walking
  • Yoga
  • Tai Chi

Consider what you are wearing

  • Consider avoiding small buttons and zips
  • Fiddly clasps on your jewellery may be difficult
  • Consider wearing loose clothing
  • Good fitting, closed footwear even in the home

Make your home more manageable

  • Avoid trip hazards such as rugs and mats, keep your stairs clear and well lit
  • Store things at a height that makes them easy to reach
  • If you are struggling with painful hands, consider suitable door handles and lever operated taps
